Dr. Mark Swanson is a fellowship-trained UCI Health Head and Neck surgeon with expertise in treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the mouth, throat, salivary glands, thyroid, neck, skull base, and skin. He utilizes advanced robotic, organ preservation and microvascular reconstructive techniques to maximize quality of life after treatment.

He earned his medical degree at the Ohio State University, followed by a residency in otolaryngology at University of Southern California. He continued his training with a fellowship in cancer and reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami and returned to USC to join the faculty before joining UCI. He has built a busy head and neck cancer surgery practice and is accepting new patients.

Dr. Swanson works in a multi-disciplinary team including surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and speech/swallow therapists to provide complete care for head and neck diseases.

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Swanson has a research interest in oncologic and quality of life outcomes in head and neck cancers. He has publications on surgical outcomes, national cancer trends, quality of life outcomes, and practice patterns. He has also started and led clinical trials for leukoplakia and medical device development. Dr. Swanson also has access to all of UCI’s clinical trials for Head & Neck cancer patients.
