Sunil P. Verma, M.D. is board-certified and fellowship trained in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Verma has been featured on the Discovery Channel and has been featured as a medical expert numerous times on CBS for The Doctors TV Show.
Dr. Verma obtained his undergraduate degrees in Geography and Chemistry from Dartmouth College. He then received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and then went on to complete internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Hospital. Dr. Verma then completed advanced training in the management of voice, swallowing and breathing disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he completed a fellowship in Laryngology under a team of world-renowned surgeons and scientists.
Dr. Verma has special expertise in the care of voice, breathing and swallowing disorders. Using state-of-the-art equipment, Dr. Verma is able to perform numerous procedures in the office instead of the operating room. Minimally invasive procedures such as laser surgery, vocal fold injections and transnasal esophagoscopy are performed without need for sedation. Dr. Verma also has special training in the management of all cancers including laryngeal cancers. Using specialized instruments including microscopes and lasers, Dr. Verma is able to perform surgery for cancer in a way to preserve normal anatomy, while removing cancerous tissue, preserving function and improving patient’s quality of life.
As a Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine, he enjoys teaching medical students and resident physicians. Dr. Verma is an active educator, and has been asked to speak at numerous conferences throughout California and the United States. Dr. Verma is authored a textbook “Laryngeal Dissection and Surgical Guide” which was published in 2013. He has authored over 40 scientific publications and numerous book chapters.
Dr. Verma has been honored numerous times as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and has been recognized by the Orange County Medical Association as a “Physician of Excellence.” He was also recognized by Super Doctors as a Southern California Rising Stars Award recipient and was recently named an ARISE award winner for his achievements as an Innovator at UC Irvine Health.
Dr. Verma sees patients in both the Orange and Irvine offices.
